Thirteen supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State have died in a road accident in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

64 others were injured in the auto crash that happened on Saturday night.

It was gathered that the victims were returning from the party flag-off and zonal rally held at Pankshin when the truck conveying them crashed on a slope between Pushit and Panyam Bridge.

The injured victims are receiving treatment in some hospitals in Nangu and Jos.

The Directorate of Media and Publicity of the Atiku-Okowa and Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign Council confirmed the incident in a statement.

Abraham Yiljap who signed the statement described the incident as an immense and painful tragedy for the PDP family in the state.

Also reacting, the PDP governorship candidate, Caleb Mutfwang, expressed shock at the tragedy.

While asking for prayers and every support to be extended to the grieving families, he described the victims as heroes of democracy.

“These are indeed gallant soldiers of democracy who gave their all. They are heroes of our democracy, and they deserve that we celebrate them while at the same time comforting their families,” he stated.

The corpses have been evacuated from the scene of the accident and deposited at the morgue while two of the injured said to be in critical condition are receiving treatment alongside those who sustained varying degrees of injuries.
