The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has submitted a petition to the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal contesting the declaration of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) as the winner of the March 18 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The five-volume petition argues that Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, was not qualified to contest the election because his name was not included in the NNPP members’ list submitted to INEC. The APC candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, was not included as a party in the petition.

The APC alleges that the NNPP did not win the election with the majority of lawful votes and that some votes cast for the NNPP were invalid. They are requesting that the tribunal declare NNPP to have no candidate and either Gawuna or the APC as the winner of the election if the alleged invalid votes were removed from NNPP’s scores.

Alternatively, they are requesting that the tribunal declare the election inconclusive as the margin of lead is not greater than the cancelled votes. The APC, NNPP, Yusuf, and INEC are the petitioner, first, second, and third respondents, respectively. The respondents have 21 days to respond to the petition after court processes have been served on them.
