VP Yemi Osinbajo will represent Nigeria at the inauguration of William Ruto as the fifth Leader of Kenya.

His spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement given, said Prof. Osinbajo departed from Abuja Monday night to join different leaders across Africa for the swearing-in ceremony planned to hold in Nairobi with around 20 heads of state expected to grace the ceremony.

He said the VP went on the trip with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu.

The media aide said during the occasion, according to local media reports, outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta will hand over the instruments of power including a ceremonial sword and a copy of Kenya’s Constitution to the new president, whose electoral victory last month’s election was affirmed by the country’s Supreme Court only last week.

Prof. Osinbajo will return to Abuja on Tuesday.

Akande said Nigeria and Kenya shared extremely warm and well-established diplomatic relations, underpinned by strong economic cooperation and cultural affinities.
